Gurnèa è un rione della città di Tropea. Nel 1495 era radura selvaggia di fitta bosca-glia. I soldati francesi di Carlo VIII, in lotta contro gli Aragonesi per il dominio dell’Italia meridionale, assediarono l’imprendibile Tropea alleata con re Ferdinando II d’Aragona. L’assedio durò diversi giorni sino a quando vi fu uno scontro impari e cruento con un drappello di soldati tropeani usciti in avanscoperta dopo essere stati ingannati da una finta ritirata dei Francesi. Quasi tutti i soldati tropeani furono trucidati e i loro corpi giacquero in una gurnèa (che vuol dire pozzanghera) di sangue. Nella prima parte del romanzo “Gurnèa” si inseriscono personaggi realmente vissuti ed altri nati dall’immaginazio-ne dell’autore. La storia narrata, tra fantasia e realtà, è un tentativo per non cancellare l’eroico avvenimento realmente accaduto e conclusosi tragicamente. Nella seconda parte (siamo nel 2095) alcuni personaggi, ‘rinati’ da quella immane tragedia, rivivono e continuano, in un futuro immaginario, una storia d’amore spezzata a testimonianza che solo i grandi sentimenti possono sconfiggere il tempo e lo spazio.
